The Terrestrial Globe
Building upon the cartographic examples of his contemporaries, particularly Mercator and Frisius, DeMongenet's coastlines and place names reflect a level of knowledge current at the time.
The island of Japan is featured between Asia and North America, but goes unnamed in this version of Demongenet's map.
A further touch of currency is added by a phrase referring to the return of Hernan Cortes (Cortesio) in 1530, appearing off the Pacific coast of Central America.
